The Two ChatGPT Prompts I Use Before I Pay Full Price

By Ethan Ha

The two prompts from the video first. Then a few extras for when you want more than “one code that works.”

Works best in ChatGPT with browsing / agent mode on. Codes go stale — always re-check at your own checkout. Never paste card details into a chat, and skip any “deal site” that wants a login or payment to “unlock” a coupon.

The two from the video

1. Find every live deal

Prompt · copy & paste

Find every available discount code, coupon and promotion for this exact product right now: [PRODUCT LINK].

2. Prove which ones work

Prompt · copy & paste

Now open your browser and test those codes at checkout without placing an order. Tell me which ones actually work and which gives me the lowest final price.

How I run it

  1. Open the product page yourself first so you know the real price.
  2. Paste Prompt 1 with the full product URL (not a homepage).
  3. Paste Prompt 2 in the same chat.
  4. Re-enter the winning code yourself at checkout. Trust the cart total, not the chat.

If the model can’t browse, Prompt 2 fails — switch to a mode with browsing, or test the shortlist yourself.

Extra prompts when you want more

Use these in the same chat after the two above, or alone if you already have a shortlist.

Stack or combine

Prompt · copy & paste

Which of these working codes can be stacked or combined with free shipping, store credit, cashback, or a payment-offer discount? List only combinations that still work at checkout, with the final price for each.

Same product, cheaper store

Prompt · copy & paste

Find the same product (same model / SKU if possible) at other reputable stores. Compare the lowest final price after discounts and shipping to my country: [COUNTRY]. Say which store wins and by how much.

Hidden “first order / email / student” deals

Prompt · copy & paste

Besides public coupon codes, what first-order, newsletter-signup, student, military, or payment-method discounts apply to this exact product or store right now? Separate “confirmed at checkout” from “claimed on a blog.”

Is this price actually good?

Prompt · copy & paste

Is [PRICE] a good deal for [PRODUCT] today? Check recent street price, typical sale range, and whether waiting for a known sale event is smarter. Be blunt — say buy, wait, or skip.

Don’t trust the chat blindly

  • Expired codes and invented coupon sites are common — your cart is the source of truth.
  • “90% off” that needs a weird login or crypto payment is usually junk.
  • If the model can’t open the checkout page, treat every code as unverified.

Same skill, different job

This is just “make the model do the boring research, then verify.” If you also build software with AI: weekend build prompts and how I ship SaaS solo with Claude/ChatGPT.
